The Weekend Wrap-Up – 27-Aug

PBR Canada Touring Pro Division – Coronation, AB.

We will start with the mid-week event that was held in Canada last Friday. Lachlan Slade picked up a second entry and made the most of it.

The Tamworth cowboy bucked off Lon’s Lost It (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls) in 3.50 seconds with the bull posting a 42 point bull score.

He then went up against his second bull and produced a 79.5 point qualified ride aboard Jitter Bug (Girletz Rodeo Stock). The score was enough to make it back for the 10-man Championship Round in the sixth slot.

I the short round Slade took on Rhythm & Blues (Flying High Rodeo Co.) who won their battle in 3.69 seconds and posted a bulls score of 43.5 points.

With the sixth place event finish, Slade collected 5 points towards the PBR World Standings and moved up one spot to 87th place.

Canada’s Lonnie West took home the buckle and was one of two riders to finish 2-for-3.

Kurt Shephard and Nathan Burtenshaw headed to Tennessee for the final PBR Major of the year over the weekend.

Both Aussies posted a qualified ride in Round 1 of the Music City Knockout.

First to ride was Shephard who drew Clemmons Time (Deer Prairie Creek Bucking Bulls / 5S Bucking Bulls). The bull backed his way out of the chute and rolled his way up the arena. Shephard survived a judges review after he opened his hand early. He was deemed to have made the 8-second mark and received 74.5 points with a re-ride option which he accepted.

Shephard then went up against Sugar Boom Boom (Cornwell Bucking Bulls and Circle G) and survived another time review. The bull turned back into his hand and bucked at a good tempo. Sugar Boom Boom reversed late in the ride which caused Shephard to slide off the outside right on the whistle. He made the whistle with the tail of the rope in his hand and was marked 85.5 points.

Burtenshaw also picked up 85.5 points on the opening night thanks to a qualified ride aboard Mickey Mouse (Deer Prairie Creek Bucking Bulls). The pair battle it out around to the left and away from Burtenshaw’s hand but the Coonamble bull rider never looked in difficulty and dominated the bull for the full 8-seconds.

The pair drew a couple of rank bulls for their Round 2 matchups.

Once again, Shephard was out first and faced Sky Harbor (Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Wilks Ranch/Paradigm Bull Co) who left the chute with his usual vigour. He turned back to the left and into the Atherton bull rider’s hand. With his steep action, he shunted Shephard forward who had to let go out over the front to avoid the wreck. The buck off was recorded at 3.29 seconds, and Sky Harbor was marked 44.25 points.

Burtenshaw was out not long after against Wild Goose (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co). The bull turned back to the left as expected and put Burtenshaw in a tricky spot with a hesitation followed by a big leap forward. Wild Goose was marked 43 points for the 3.85-second buck off and extended his record against right-handed riders to 13-0.

The pair collected 5 world points each after splitting 11th place with several other riders. Shephard ends the weekend in 39th spot, while Burtenshaw is in 95th spot in the PBR World Standings.

Brazilian Marco Eguchi defeated Dalton Kasel in Round 5 to win the event.
