The Weekend Wrap Up – 20-Aug

Just the three Aussie riders competed in the USA over the weekend while 17 cowboys went head to head here in Australia at the Burnett Heads Touring Pro.

Let’s recap the results:

PBR Australia Touring Pro Division – Burnett Heads, QLD.

Tamworth bull rider Ethan Watts broke through for his first PBR Australia event in front of a packed house at the 2019 Burnett Heads Touring Pro on Saturday.

“Yeah, it feels pretty good. It’s been a long time coming, but finally it’s happened,” Watts said with a big smile on his face.

Continue reading about Watts’ win here.

PBR Unleash The Beast – Houston, TX.

Round 1

Atherton’s Kurt Shephard was out in Section 1 of Round 1, and he took on Coy Dog (Rickey West Bucking Bulls). The bull started strong and turned back to the right after some big hops out. Shephard got caught a bit too far behind, and he came down at 3.78 seconds. The bull score was 42.25 points, and Shephard came away clutching at his riding hand or wrist.

It was a long wait until the final section to see Coonamble’s Nathan Burtenshaw face off against Bandy’s Bad Boy (D&H Bucking Bulls / Moe & Rusty Bandy). The bull took a sharp turn along the chutes to the right. He then dove back towards the gate, forcing Burtenshaw onto his pockets and he was unable to recover. The ride ended at 4.12 seconds with the bull marked just 31.25 points.

Round 2

Shephard received a re-ride after his draw Godzilla (Blake Sharp) never got clear of the chute. His re-ride bull was Hitman from EVP Bucking Bulls and EJ Cattle.

Hitman took a long leap out of the chutes, which caused Shephard to slip back from his rope. He was unable to recover, and the ride is over at 2.13 seconds. The bull scored 41 points.

Burtenshaw took on Swayze (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Clay Struve / Diamond Willow). The bull turned back to the left at a good rhythm until about the five-second mark of the ride where he ran off along the chutes. The 82.75 points weren’t enough to make it back for the Championship round, and Burtenshaw finished the event in 23rd spot.

Montana’s Jess Lockwood took home the win from Texas while Arkansas cowboy Chase Outlaw won the 15/15 Bucking Battle.

PBR Touring Pro Division – Killdeer, ND.

It was a rough weekend for Tamworth’sLachlan Slade who went 0-for-4 in Killdeer.

Slade bucked off Problem Child in 6.51 seconds and BB Stubbs in 2.75 seconds on Night 1.

On Night 2 he came down Check Mate in 4.08 seconds and Neon Bomber in 3.15 seconds.

Skeeter Kingsolver from Kansas won the event.

Check back tomorrow for this week’s edition of The PBR Rundown.
