This edition of the Weekend Preview is quite a large one with Aussie riders scheduled to compete at seven PBR events in Australia and North America over the next seven days. I will be on the road most of the weekend, but I will do my best to keep readers updated via the Ride the Rage social media channels.
PBR Canada Touring Pro Division
We get things started on Friday at Midday AEST with the Celebration for the Two Bit Nation PBR Canada Touring Pro event in Mcgrath, Alberta.
World number 34 Lachlan Richardson (Gresford, NSW) will compete in Canada before flying to the USA to compete on the 25th PBR: Unleash the Beast tour event in Springfield, MO. The 25-year-old moved into 2nd on the PBR Canada National Standings last weekend with a 5th place finish at the Glen Keeley Memorial event last weekend. Richardson will face Friday Night Blues (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) in the long-go.
Lachlan Slade (Tamworth, NSW) will also be in action and comes into the event following his fourth-place finish in Stavely, Alberta last weekend. Slade will be hoping to carry that form through when he takes Vold Rodeo’s Black Attack in Round 1.
After taking the win in Elnora, Alberta a month ago, Justin Paton (Nebo, QLD) will be hoping to bounce back after a disappointing night in Stavely last weekend. The 26-year-old has drawn Swagger from Vold Rodeo and Dynamite Buckers.
The 25th PBR: Unleash the Beast
The last three-day event of the 25th PBR: Unleash the Beast tour kicks off at 10:30am AEST on Saturday with full coverage live from Springfield, Missouri on Ridepass. Round 2 is also live on Ridepass from 9:30am AEST on Sunday with Championship Sunday available through Listen Live from 6:45am AEST on Monday.
The 25th PBR: Unleash the Beast tour regulars Nathan Burtenshaw (Coonamble, NSW) and Lachlan Richardson will be joined by Cliff Richardson (Gresford, NSW) this weekend. Cliff will make his Premier Tour debut and compete in the USA for the first time since 2013.
Burtenshaw took a few weeks off following a rough Music City Knockout but looked good in his 5.03-second buck off at the mid-week PBR Velocity Tour event on Wednesday. The world number 24 has drawn Blue Head (3J Ranch / Wallace Bucking Bulls) in Round 1. The bull was ridden by Ouncie Mitchell at the Touring Pro event in Belton, Texas last weekend for 84-points.
Lachlan can hopefully get out of Canada unscathed with a good result. He will face a bull that has been unridden in eight career outs. The bull is Good Night Robicheaux from 6M Ranch and Riley Samford. We saw this bull in Tulsa a month ago where the bull stalled out of the chutes and caught Sean Willingham off guard with a powerful kick for a 43-point, 2.23-second buck-off.
Cliff is ranked 37th in the world standings and is one of the eight alternate or exempt riders competing in Springfield. The 27-year-old has drawn Proctor’s Pride (Long Ranch / Dean Wilson) for Round 1. This bull has had two outs in the PBR’s minor leagues and is unridden, posting bull scores of 44.0 and 43.5 points.
Daysheets for Rounds 2 and 3 will be updated after Round 1 is complete so I will update the matchups on my Social Media.
PBR Australia Monster Energy Tour
The PBR Australia Monster Energy Tour resumes this weekend with Australia’s best riders competing in the 2018 Mackay Invitational at Queens Park.
If you can’t be in attendance I will be providing coverage in the Live Updates page and on Social Media during the Mackay Invitational.
PBR Minor Leagues
There is also PBR Minor League action on Sunday with the velocity Tour rolling into Wilkes-Barre Township, PA and the Touring Pro Division heading to Fredericksburg, TX.
Lachlan Slade has also entered a second event this weekend and will fly the Aussie flag in Wilkes-Barre Township, Pennsylvania. The 24-year-old has drawn Gold Digger from Championship Pro Rodeo and 7 Rocking X in the long-go. This bull has been ridden 3 times in his 12 recorded outs with American Michael Lane the latest, putting 82.25 points on the Cheyenne, Wyoming leaderboard back in July.
All the action from Wilkes-Barre event will be shown live on Ridepass from 11am AEST on Sunday.
Young-gun Ky Hamilton (Mackay, QLD) will be in action in Fredericksburg, Texas on Sunday. Hamilton has drawn Swamp Wreck (Cooper and Scruggs Bucking Bulls) and I am not sure if this is the same bull that we regularly see on the PBR’s Premier Tour. If it is, the bull has been ridden five of his last six outs and has a rider-friendly action.
Daysheets are not yet available for the PBR Touring Pro Division events in Pendleton, Oregon or Columbus, Ohio.
Cliff Richardson will be in action at the two-day event in Pendleton and I am sure we will see other Aussies entered once daysheets are released. I will have a mid-week preview up on Monday or Tuesday.
