The Weekend Preview

There are no PBR Australia events scheduled for this weekend but we do have two events in the USA to keep our eye on. Both events will be live on RidePass on Saturday and Sunday and I will be providing updates via Ride the Rage Social Media over the weekend.

Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour

The first event to go live will be the Velocity Tour event from Huntington, West Virginia. It will be a 10am start on Saturday and a 9am start on Sunday.

Fraser Babbington (Gisborne, NZ) will have one last throw at the stumps before returning to Australia and he looks to have a very favourable draw for Round 1.

Fire & Ice from Baker & Hurst will be Babbington’s opening night opponent. The bull has been covered in seven of his last nine outs with both left and right-handed riders receiving scores. Cody Campbell made the whistle for 84.75 points back in July at Cheyenne, but riders have been scored up to 91-points on this bull. I haven’t been able to find any vision of Fire & Ice, but the stats indicate that he has quite a rider-friendly trip.

For Round 2, Fraser Babbington has drawn a bull from JQH Bucking Bulls called Bullet Proof. I have not been able to any vision or information on this bull.

The 25th PBR: Unleash the Beast

The premier tour makes it’s fourth last stop of the 2018 regular season with two days of competition in Austin, Texas. Round 1 will be live on RidePass from 10:45am AEST Saturday morning and we can Listen Live to Championship Saturday from 9:45am AEST Sunday.

Lachlan Richardson (Gresford, NSW) will be the first Aussie out in Round 1 and he will face Dusty’s Revenge (Dakota Rodeo-Berger/Struve/H&C). This bull holds an impressive record against the world’s top riders, regularly posting high 43-point bull scores. Left-handers tend to do a bit better with the bull turning back sharply to the left with a lot of speed. This does not bode well for Richardson but if he can stay out over the front end he will give himself a chance to become only the second right-handed rider to reach the whistle.

Nathan Burtenshaw also faces a bull in Round 1 that we have seen a lot of and know a fair bit about. Rocket Man (Dakota Rodeo-Berger/Struve/Heald) has been covered once so far this year with JB Mauney getting the job done in Sioux Falls for 87-points. Dener Barbosa has had the last two cracks at this bull, making the 8-seconds but getting done for a 7.8-second touch in Springfield and hitting the dirt at the 6.96-second mark in Atlantic City. The bull has no set pattern and a lot of kick. I think Burtenshaw gets along quite well with this type of bull and hopefully, he is still on top of Rocket Man when the whistle blows.

Lachlan Richardson has drawn Mac’s Barbeque from Owens and Wyatt for Round 2. This bull should be similar to the bull Richardson rode for 86.75-points in Round 1. Mac’s Barbeque should be around to the left but seems to have a bit more rhythm than Dusty’s Revenge did. He has been covered in six of his eleven outs with right-handers holding a good record. If you can make the first round, you can usually settle in and add some flash to the ride.

Richardson picked up 50-points for his third-place finish in Round 1. He moves to 31st spot in the PBR World Standings.

For those that missed it, Nathan Burtenshaw was ruled out of Round 1 with the symptoms of his concussion from last week still lingering. But he has been cleared by Sports Med to compete today. He has drawn Buster (Scott Winston/Melton Bull Co.) in Round 2. This bull has allowed only one qualified rider from eight recorded outs on Probullstats. We last saw him out in Springfield where Joao Ricardo Vieira made it to 7-seconds with the bull around to the right. Once again, if Burtenshaw can keep his feet down, I like his chances here.

View Saturday’s Daysheets HERE and I will post previews of the Round 2 matchups for both events on Sunday morning.
