After five weekends of PBR bull riding, Team Cooper Tires has been crowned Monster Energy Teams Challenge Champions.
Team Ariat finished up in 3rd place. Mackay’s Ky Hamilton provided excellent support to Cooper Davis led team, but I think injuries and his busy schedule told in the end.
2020 PBR Monster Energy Team Challenge – Finals Weekend – Sioux Falls, SD.
Saturday – Playoffs Game 2 – Team Ariat v Team Can-Am
Team Ariat made it though Wildcard Friday with a 172.75 to 88.25 victory over Team Can-Am. Cooper Davis put a score on the board in Round 1 with Tyler Bingham successful in Round 2.
Ky Hamilton‘s first opponent was Jane Clark and Gene Owen’s Zorro, but he was awarded a re-ride after the bull hit the chutes and caught a horn.
Cut the Cord was his re-ride bull and it looked a great matchup from the moment it popped into the daysheet. The Kruger Bucking Bull turned back to the right on this occasion, but Hamilton overrode and fell down the bull’s right shoulder for a disappointing 4.06-second buck off. Judges marked the bull 42.25 points.
In Round 2, Hamilton climbed aboard Losing My Religion from Kruger Bucking Bulls. The ride ended at 3.39-seconds in a similar fashion to his round 1 match. The bull turned back to the right with a lot of up and down, but Hamilton was down to the inside once again. 42-points went the bull’s way.
Sunday – Playoffs Game 3 – Team Ariat v Team Cooper Tires
Team Cooper Tires got out to a fast start, recording three qualified rides in the opening round as Team Ariat struggled to get off the mark. That lead would be plenty, as they breezed into the Final, eliminating Team Ariat with a 344.75-89 victory.
In Round 2, Cooper Davis posted the only score for Team Ariat.
Ky Hamilton drew Hard & Fast Glover Cattle and D&H Cattle in Round 1, and it was expected to be a tough matchup. The bull initially put in a big fake to the right and then turned back to the left. That forced Hamilton onto his pockets and to the outside. He couldn’t recover from there with the clock stopped at 4.08-seconds with 43-points going the bulls way.
In the second round, Hamilton faced Paradigm Bull Company’s Zero Time but the bull was way too strong. The buck off came at 1.62 seconds with the bull scored 45.25 points. The bull blew out of the chute kicking the hats off the riders on the back of the chutes, and that power was enough to bring Hamilton down.
Sunday – Playoffs Game 6 – Team Ariat v Team Las Vegas
In the fight for 3rd and 4th spots, Team Ariat and Team Las Vegas were both unable to record a qualified ride, so due to their superior aggregate ride total, Team Ariat took the bronze medal spot.
Ky Hamilton was allocated Red Dawn from Dakota Rodeo, Chad Berger, Clay Struve and Heald Pro Bulls in the only round.
The bull turns back to the left and away from Hamilton’s hand. He bucked with pretty good rhythm, and Hamilton looked good in the opening stages of the ride, but the bull got the better of him, marked 43.5 points during the 2.95-second buck off.

Across in Indiana, a two day event was held at the Touring Pro level. The bulls dominated the event with only eleven scores recorded from over 100 trips. Montana’s Dakota Louis emerged win after he posted an aggregate total of 170-points.
