2018 PBR Music City Knockout Update

Only a few hours until the final rounds of the 25th PBR: Unleash The Beast Music City Knockout get underway in Nashville, TN. As yesterday showed, anything can happen in this format of competition and it is very hard to predict who will progress but it appears the cream is rising to the top. One Australian rider remains alive in the draw.

The Format

Today kicks off with Round’s 3 and 4 of Brackets A, B and C with the winner advancing to the Final Four. We will then take the 8 eliminated riders with the best ride scores and re-seed them into the second chance bracket. After completing this bracket the rider who makes it through will join the winners of Bracket’s A, B and C in the Final Four. The winners of the Final Four matchups will face off in the Final to crown the Music City Knockout Champion.

The Aussies

Nathan Burtenshaw will face off against Cody Teel in Round 4. Burtenshaw will have his work cut out for him after drawing Soup in a Group (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Wilks Ranch) who has only been conquered once in PBR competition. That was back in 2016. The bull bucked off five straight riders at the premier tour level with Matt Triplett the latest at the Jackson Hole Touring Pro in Wyoming recording a bull score of 44.0 points.

Teel will face Henry Wilson’s Shownuff and looks a clear favourite to take out the matchup. The bull has been ridden 5 of his last 11 trips with ride scores in the high 80’s.

If Burtenshaw is eliminated, his Round 2 buck off time may be good enough to make it back into the second chance bracket.

It looks like Lachlan Richardson‘s weekend is over with his best BOT not enough to make it back into the second chance bracket.

The Contenders

Many riders looked good in the early rounds of the Music City Knockout with 2017 PBR World Champion Jess Lockwood and former World Champions JB Mauney, Cooper Davis and Guilherme Marchi all progressing through their matchups to reach Round 3. Koal Livingston is only man 2-for-2 and leads the aggregate side of competition.
