Aussies Abroad – 7-Mar

Once again we will be cheering on Kurt Shephard (Atherton, QLD) and Lawson Nobbs (Moura, QLD) at the PBR Pendleton Whiskey Velocity Tour level with a rare three-day event scheduled for Bangor, Maine this weekend.

Day one of three will kick off on Saturday Australian time and will be live on RidePass. View this week’s edition of The PBR Rundown for all the updated event times and coverage details.

Kurt Shephard enters the weekend ranked 31st in the Velocity Tour standings and 58th in the World standings. The 24-year-old is currently 143.3 points behind No. 35 Stetson Lawrence and with a massive 620 points available, remains within striking distance of a premier series berth.

The 24-year-old has drawn Fox Hole from Cornwell Bucking Bulls in Round 1. I hope I have the right bull here as it looks as though it may have changed hands earlier this season. Fox Hole has been covered ten times from 22 outs with scores averaging in the mid-’80s. From the vision I have been able to find, he should be around to the right and doesn’t travel too far from the chutes.

Lawson Nobbs is unlucky not to find himself ranked higher than his current 87th ranking on the World Rankings and 74th in the Velocity Tour standings. The 21-year-old has covered 4 of his six bulls since returning to the USA. Following his win in Texarkana, Nobbs narrowly missed out on the Championship Round in Worcester despite putting a score on the board.

In Round 1 this weekend, Nobbs will face off against Southern Twist from Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls. This bull is unridden on the three trips he has listed on Probullstats. In his previous out a fortnight ago in Worcester, Southern Twist bucked off Joe Frost in quick time.

Stay tuned for updates to this week’s Aussies Abroad as I will update their matchups as the weekend progresses.

The daysheets for Night 2 and Night 3 should be updated following Round 1.

Bangor Classic Round 2 Matchups

Late in Round 2, Shephard will go up against a bull that I have been unable to find out any information on. Just Enough from J Bar W appears to be having his first out in the PBR and has no outs listed on Probullstats.

Nobbs will face off with Scream Tested from Broken Arrow Bucking bulls in the first section of the night. This bull has not competed in PBR competition since the Built Ford Tough event at San Jose in 2017. He was ridden once in his five trips and that was by Mike Lee for 83.75 points earlier that season.

UPDATE: Bangor Classic Round 3 Matchups

Nobbs enters Round 3 a perfect 2-for-2 and is currently splitting eighth place on the leaderboard. He will face Blue Crush from Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls in Section 1. Blue Crush competed at Unleash The Beast events last season and gave up two rides in his 6 outs. Dakota Buttar was 84.5 points and Ramon de Lima was 82.5 points. He will turn back to the right.

After a strong ride in the opening round, Shephard bucked off in Round 2 and enters the final day in a tie for 18th on the leaderboard. There are a few Copperhead Road’s listed on Probullstats, but there are aren’t any listed in the bull herd of Cornwell Bucking Bulls, so we will take this bull as an unknown.
