With World No. 46 Brady Fielder taking the weekend off to recover from an abdominal injury sustained at the Unleash The Beast Tour event in Sacramento, the Australian representation in the USA is down to four riders.
Check out the PBR Rundown for all the event times and coverage details.
Saturday – PBR Unleash The Beast Tour – Oklahoma City, OK.
No. 16 ranked Aaron Kleier will once again spearhead the Aussie charge on the Premier Tour. The Clermont cowboy is 4-for-13 since arriving in the USA, but it seems as though he is not far off cracking a Top-10 finish. This week Kleier will be joined by the No. 20 ranked Nathan Burtenshaw, who will fill one of the many alternate spots available in OKC. The Coonamble bull rider has recorded back to back Top-10 finishes on the Velocity Tour since returning to the USA a fortnight ago. This event will be Burtenshaw’s first UTB start since August 2019 where he finished 11th at the Music City Knockout.
Night 1 features an ABBI Classic Round, so we will be seeing many of these three and four-year-old bulls for the first time.
Burtenshaw will ride at the back end of Section 2, and his opponent will be Little Hott. This bull is a four-year-old from TM Cattle Co. and BS Cattle Co. who is having his first trip in the Classic division. He is a son of Hou’s Back and was marked as high as 87-points in his ABBI Derby year. I have not been able to find any video of his trips.
Kleier will lead Section 4 away against Tuffy from Flying S Bucking Bulls. This bucker is a son of Big Time Blind, and we have not seen him perform since his Futurity campaign in 2018. His high marked dummy-trip was marked 89-points. I have not been able to find any vision of this bull.
Sunday – PBR Velocity Tour – Knoxville, TN.
Following his 1-for-2 trip in Canada last weekend, Lane Mellers returns to the Velocity Tour where he is 1-for-5 so far this season. The Mundubbera talent is ranked 60th in the world. Also returning to the Velocity Tour is Lawson Nobbs, who has spent the past fortnight competing on the Unleash The Beast Tour. The Moura cowboy is 2-for-5 at this level in 2020 and is ranked No. 68.
This event is another Million Dollar Bull Team event, so we should see a bunch ridden once again, but there are some unfamiliar names in the draw on the stock side, so that may throw a spanner in the works.
Mellers will be out in the middle of Section 3 aboard Real Talk from Barrett Bucking Stock. I haven’t seen this bull on any of the results sheets, so this may be a new addition to their squad. There are also no trips listed on PBS, so we will watch this matchup with interest.
It will be another long way for Nobbs, who will be the final rider to nod in the long round. He has drawn the unridden Boom Boom from Davis Rodeo Inc. This bull has five trips in the PBR over the last couple of years, and there isn’t any vision floating about. Right-handers haven’t had the best of luck aboard this bull, so maybe the left-handed Nobbs will have more joy.
Sunday – PBR Unleash The Beast Tour – Oklahoma City, OK.
Both Nathan Burtenshaw and Aaron Kleier bucked off their draws in the ABBI Classic Round on Saturday. With just twelve scores on the board at the conclusion of Round 1, a decent score will get the Aussies back with one score if they can make the whistle in the second round.
Burtenshaw will be first to ride just before the break in Section 1. He faces Rockin’ T Ranch’s Slice of Heaven who is yet to be ridden in five PBR trips, but he was ridden twice in PRCA competition. He will be around to the right as the gate cracks. He kicks hard and really whips his rear end around.
Kleier will be out in the latter part of Section 1 against Cowboy’s Red River from JD Nix. They have covered this bull in 25% of his 16 PBR outs with scores north of 85 points recorded. This bull takes a couple of leaps to clear the left gate before turning back to the right. He bucks at a pretty good tempo, but he can hop step around before settling into his action.
Stay tuned for the Weekend PBR Wrap-Up, which will be out Sunday afternoon following the Championship Round in OKC.
