Aussies Abroad – 19-June

This weekend, Ky Hamilton will fly the Aussie flag as Division B of the PBR’s Monster Energy Team Challenge kicks off inside the SouthPoint Arena.

The Mackay young-gun will and represent Team Ariat and compete alongside teammates 2016 PBR World Champion Cooper Davis, Tyler Bingham and Dalton Potter. J.W. Hart will take charge as General Manager of the team in a bid to progress to the Championship Weekend next month in South Dakota.

PBR Monster Energy Team Challenge – Division B – Week 1

Saturday – Game 21 – Team Ariat v Team Lucas Oil

This matchup will be the final of the opening day, and it looks to be a tough matchup for Team Ariat. Team Lucas Oil General Manager Jerome Davis has chosen an impressive trio of riders consisting of Matt Triplett, Dalton Kasel and Ryan Dirteater to kick off their campaign.

Hamilton will get his chance to establish a starting spot for Team Ariat in the Round 1 of the matchup. He has drawn Spotted Pearl, who will be making his PBR debut for Cottonwood Bucking Bulls.

I have not been able to find any information on this bull.

In Round 2, Hamilton will lead his team off against Soy El Fuego from Stockyards Pro Rodeo, Scott Winston and Melton Bull Company.

Back in January, the 20-year-old was 89-points aboard this bull to win Round 3 of a PRCA Rodeo in Fort Worth. Soy El Fuego likes to turn back to the left, and he generally does so with plenty of vigour. He can slip some big moves into his trips, but on most occasions, his timing is quite consistent. Hamilton is one of five right-handers who have reached the whistle against this bull despite the anti-clockwise spin.

Here are the Saturday Daysheets.

Sunday – Game 23 – Team Ariat v Team Cat

Team Ariat emerged with the upset win on Day 1 but after posting just the one qualified ride, they will be hoping to build up some confidence in this matchup against Team Cat.

The opposition team on Day 2 consists of Dakota Louis, Ouncie Mitchell and Clayton Sellars. This will be the second matchup of the day.

In Round 1, Hamilton will anchor his team, and he takes on Mason’s Missouri Golden who has been ridden just the three times from 32 trips. This is a powerful bull from Dakota Rodeo, Chad Berger, Clay Struve and Heald Pro Bulls that will be around to the left, and he likes to drift a long way out into the arena.

Kruger Bucking Bulls’ Twinkle Toes will be Hamilton’s second opponent for the day. This bull has been ridden a bunch of times in PBR competition over the past two seasons. He likes to take a couple of long hops out before turning back strong to the right.

Here are the Day 2 Daysheets.

Monday – Game 27 – Team Ariat v Team Pendleton Whisky

Team Ariat picked up the win on Day 2 of the weekend and Ky Hamilton led the way with the highest marked ride of the matchup.

The win earned them a spot in the Game of the Week against a powerful Team Pendleton Whiskey which features Marco Eguchi, Lucas Divino and Amadeu Campos Silva.

In his first matchup of the day, Hamilton will face Holy Water from Paradigm Bull Company. This bull improved his record to 6-3 when he bucked off Divino on Saturday. He tends to prefer a right-handed spin, catches plenty of air and kicks the lights out. I think this looks like a great matchup.

A veteran bull awaits Hamilton in Round 2. Spotted Demon from Julio Moreno and Dallas Schott has had almost 100 trips for just 14 qualified rides. In the past 12 months, they have gone 6-for-10 with the average ride score coming in upwards of 91-points. The bull will turn right, but his speed and power is what beats most cowboys. He can also back up in the air and throws plenty of tricks at the rider.

Here are the Daysheets for the final games of the week.

Stay tuned for the Weekend PBR Wrap-Up, which will be out on Tuesday morning.
