2019 Monster Energy PBR Origin – The Late Mail

The countdown to the very inaugural Monster Energy PBR Origin has entered its final hours, so it is time to try and make a few predictions.

The Teams

It’s hard to say how many rides New South Wales or Queensland will need to be crowned Monster Energy PBR Origin Champions for 2019.

So far in the 2019 PBR Australia season, the cowboys have covered 33.19% of their bulls, but this will be the strongest pen of bucking bulls that they have faced at any single event this year.

I think if either team can put nine qualified rides on the board from their 26 attempts (34.6%) they will put themselves in an excellent position to take the win. Eight scores might be enough.

Cowboy of Origin

Who will be crowned Cowboy of Origin, and will they go 3-for-3 and claim a $5,000 bonus?

Yes. Who? Not sure.

There are only a handful of guys with adequate draws in both rounds of competition to be able to try and predict this one. The draw for the Bonus Round will also be a random one, so that adds an extra element to my guesses.

Queensland’s Mitchel Paton has drawn very well in the long rounds and will face a pair of Wallace Bucking Bulls buckers that he would be familiar with. Both Super Natural and Iron Jacket will turn back into his hand, giving him a great chance to put a couple of scores on the board.

New South Wales’ Cliff Richardson also looks to have drawn well in both rounds. He gets a rematch with Wallace Bucking BullsScene of the Crash in Round 1 and then faces off with Kasper Bucking BullsSweetPro’s Mystery in the second long round. Mystery has been covered in all three of his PBR outs this season for solid scores.

Read this week’s edition of The Morning Line for more indepth analysis of some of the highlight matchups.

Other riders that I think have a shot include Maroons Aaron Kleier, Lawson Nobbs and Joshua Jones who are all riding very well and just need an ounce of luck to make it through their matchups.

On the Blues side of the fence, both Nathan Burtenshaw and Will Purcell have drawn ridable bulls, and if Cody Heffernan is healthy following his wreck at the last event in Rockhampton, he won’t be far off qualifying for the Bonus Round.

My Tip?

Queensland of course!

This will be a really fun event… and you should see the arena!
