The cowboys have been on a roll in the lead up to the 2019 Adelaide Invitational, posting above-average riding percentages at the recent PBR Australia Monster Energy Tour events.
Will this trend continue? Let’s breakdown the daysheet.
We get things underway with a rematch from Bendigo earlier this season between Ethan Watts and Red Man (13-13, PBRA). The Tamworth cowboy came away with 79-points on that occasion, but the Throsby & Russell Bucking Bull has bucked off five riders in his last seven outs.
The run of TnR bulls continues with Hangover (1-1, PBRA) facing Robert Hicks and Terms & Conditions (1-3, PBRA) drawing Lane Mellers.
Jay Borghero will be next to ride aboard Landing Strip (6-1, PBRA) and Fraser Babbington will follow when he faces Switch Back (7-6, PBRA) for the first time.
Oscar Leake will face the final TnR bucker of the section when he climbs aboard Battle Jack (4-2, PBRA).
Woodall Rodeo Company’s Blind Spot (0-0, PBRA) will make his debut against Nathan Burtenshaw with Sam Woodard next to go against the unridden South Bound (6-0, PBRA). Woodard and South Bound met up earlier this season with the bull winning their 2.7 second battle in the Traralgon dirt.
Merv Church will attempt to ride Gambler (1-0, PBRA) before Mitchel Paton makes his return from injury for a rematch with Firecracker (4-0, PBRA).
The section closes with another debut Woodall bull called Aussie Dollar (0-0, PBRA) who has drawn veteran Budd Williamson.
Black Amigo (1-1, PBRA) from John Gill & Sons will be the opponent for Justin Robards with Sam Woodall next to ride against Hippy (0-0, PBRA) who will make his PBR debut.
Defending Champion Aaron Kleier gets a rematch from last weekend aboard Reverend Mr Black (1-2, PBRA) after the pair combined for 81-points in Wodonga.
Lachlan Slade gets a chance to avenge his Round 1 buckoff last weekend in Wodonga when he squares off with Down Under (11-6, PBRA) once again.
The final Gill bull of this round will be Vertical Exit (1-1, PBRA) with Lachlan Richardson drawn to climb aboard.
JC Davis and Will Purcell will face the TnR pairing of Hot Dots (11-6, PBRA) and Southern Man (5-1, PBRA).
We finish off the opening round with a run of Woodall bulls with Bailey Woodard and the rider-friendly YTB (2-5, PBRA) leading things off.
Hit Man (4-3, PBRA) goes back into the right delivery for his bout with Troy Wilkinson, and penmate Daredevil (1-0, PBRA) will take on Josh Cavanagh in the next out.
Cameron McLennan closes out the round against Class Act (2-2, PBRA).
Ethan Watts once again leads the riders off against Little Moody (1-0, PBRA) from Morgys Cattle Company with Aaron Kleier taking on penmate Super Hero (1-0, PBRA) next.
It’s a quick backup for Cameron McLennan who will take on Morgy’s Big or Bust (1-0, PBRA) with Lachlan Slade climbing aboard Woodall’s Long Neck (1-0, PBRA).
Nathan Burtenshaw will hope to continue the right-handed rider domination of Chain Reaction (4-5, PBRA) in the following out.
Merv Church and Lane Mellers will go up against the TnR pairing of Twisted T (1-3, PBRA) and Bad Apple (9-5, PBRA). Mellers covered Bad Apple earlier this season in Bendigo for 81.5 points.
The final run of Woodall’s long round bulls are all making their PBR debuts.
We will see JC Davis facing Dusty (0-0, PBRA), Jay Borghero against Back Draft (0-0, PBRA), Justin Robards aboard Street Kid (0-0, PBRA) and Mitchel Paton versus Cookies Kaos (0-0, PBRA).
The sturdy TnR pair of Train Wreck (12-3, PBRA) and Full Noise (3-0, PBRA) will be next to buck against Robert Hicks and Oscar Leake.
We move back into a run of Gill branded bulls with Bailey Woodard set to battle Coors Light (15-9, PBRA) before we see a battle between veterans Fraser Babbington and Homicidal 2 (16-4, PBRA).
Josh Cavanagh will attempt to avenge his Queanbeyan buckoff against Stir Crazy (11-4, PBRA) before we see Budd Williamson take on Gold Bandit (0-1, PBRA).
A run of TnR bulls closes out the second round beginning with Sam Woodard facing Spokane (3-3, PBRA).
Will Purcell has an excellent chance to put up substantial numbers against Laramie (0-1, PBRA) with Troy Wilkinson next to ride against Broken Halo (11-2, PBRA) who has bucked off his last eight cowboys.
Sam Woodall and Posting Bail (5-2, PBRA) will do battle before Lachlan Richardson gets his first shot at Matt Black (0-3, PBRA) to close out the round.
Championship Round Bull Pen
This looks a favourable short round set which should ensure an exciting finish.
Wallaby Bob (5-8, PBRA) from John Gill & Sons will greet the eighth rider in the aggregate. He looks a favourable draw for any cowboy, and they will make an early jump up the leaderboard and to apply pressure to the riders at the top.
Woodall’s Business Hour (9-2, PBRA) doesn’t get covered often, but riders tend to get a long way into the ride before the clock is stopped.
High Flying Akubra (14-12, PBRA) from the Gill truck will be out next, followed by Woodall’s Blind Fury (10-1, PBRA).
Silver Lining (7-2, PBRA) from TnR and Ransom 2 (7-8, PBRA) from John Gill await the fourth and third-placed riders.
The top-ranked riders will face off against the TnR pairing of Wild Paint (10-3, PBRA) and On Point (16-12, PBRA), who looks a nice reward for any cowboy riding for the buckle.
