2018 PBR Finals Week – Day 5

Day five was another quiet day here in Las Vegas but it was an important one with ABBI action set to get underway Tuesday.

The Bulls and Riders

Monday was the final check-in day for the ABBI Stock Contractors and their animal athletes. So that means the world’s rankest bucking bulls and top young bovine athletes are now penned here at the South Point.

One of the highlights of the week for a lot of PBR fans is the Bull Housing Tours. You get a meet and greet with Tiffany and Jerome Davis of Davis Bucking Bulls and then an educational tour of the pens, to learn what goes into raising a PBR Champion Bucking Bull. The tours start on Wednesday.

With the PBR World Finals qualifiers announced on Sunday, it was also rider check-in day.

Justin Felisko put up a good story yesterday on PBR.com about the riders who are making their World Finals debut. Nathan Burtenshaw features heavily in this article so make sure you have a read.

The ABBI Finals

The ABBI held their inagural Stock Contractors meeting plus a Cocktail Party yesterday. Both events were well attended and gave those invested in the industry some indication of where the sport is heading.

It was confirmed that Derby bulls would once again be used at the 2019 Velocity Tour Finals, but there was no mention of the Classic Wildcard bulls. So the forcast changes to future PBR Finals Weeks look like they may be going ahead.

Hayden Shaw and Cord McCoy gave an entertaining preview of the ABBI Finals, interviewing several of the best trainers in the business including HD Page (D&H Cattle Company) and Kenny McElroy (K-C Bucking Bulls) who gave a great insight into their breeding and training methods.

The draw for Round 1 of the PBR World Finals and the ABBI Classic competition has also been released.

I will have more on this tomorrow morning in my Day 6 Update.

Up Next

Tuesday kicks off with the ABBI’s Open and Women’s Futurity Competitions which will be followed by the ABBI Elite Yearling Cocktails and Video Sale.
