13-Aug PBR Weekend Wrap-up

There was plenty of bull riding to try and keep on top of this weekend with Aussie riders in action at all levels of PBR competition here in Australia and across the Pacific in the USA and Canada. Let’s get into the PBR Weekend Wrap-up.

PBR Australia Monster Energy Tour

Aaron Kleier (Clermont, QLD) and Cliff Richardson (Gresford, NSW) both produced perfect 3-for-3 performances to tie for the Newcastle Invitational win on Saturday Night in front of a sold-out crowd at the Newcastle Entertainment Center.

The 25th PBR: Unleash The Beast

Lachlan Richardson made the whistle on night 1 in Tulsa, OK. It wasn’t the best out for Uptown Funk (4G Ranch / Long) as the two fought it out in the chute before the gate cracked but Richardson put together a gritty ride to get onto the leaderboard in Round 1 with 82.0 points.

Nathan Burtenshaw lasted 2.1 seconds before being dislodged by Blue Crush (McCoy Ranches) in Round 1.

Burtenshaw drew Red Rover in Round 2 and made the most of the good draw recording an 83.5 point trip in the Curtis Mendel bucker. This score was good enough to get the 24-year-old back in the Championship Round in 12th spot.

Richardson cam down very early courtesy of Clover Mountain Beau from J&C Cattle Company and Gene Owen. Despite the 1.98 second round 2 buck off, his Round 1 score of 83.0 points was good enough to scrape into the Championship Round in 15th place.

Burtenshaw selected The Don from LJ Jenkins and BMC Bucking Bulls in the draft while Richardson was left with High Chaparral from Bierema Rodeo.

Neither rider came away with a score with Richardson first to go on High Chaparral. The results was a 4.01 second buck off and a 44.0 point bullscore. Burtenshaw was down in 1.42 seconds with The Don scoring 43.25 points.

The event was taken out by Jose Vitor Leme who went 3-for-3 across the weekend.

Both Richardson and Burtenshaw eared 5 World Points and sit 33rd and 24th respectively in the World Standings.

PBR Canada Touring Pro Division

Lachlan Richardson, Lachlan Slade and Justin Paton started their weekend in Canada competing in Whitecourt, Alberta on Saturday.

Slade finished fifth in the event covering Billy Big Rigger from Outlaw Buckers Rodeo in Round 1 for 82.0 points with Richardson also making the whistle in the long-go for 79.0 points on Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls’ Tykro Total. No luck for Justin Paton on the night.

The event was taken out by Canadian Jake Gardner who was the only rider to go a perfect 2-for-2.

PBR Canada Touring Pro Division

The action moved to Elnora, Alberta on Sunday for the 20th Annual Brahma Rama and it was an Aussie on top at the end of the night with Justin Paton taking home the buckle and 60 World Points to move to 46th in the PBR World Standings.

Paton’s 85-point ride aboard Kool Aid from R Saga Ranch was one of only three qualified rides on the night.

We are still awaiting full scores for the PBR Canada events to filter through so when if there is anything notable I will pass that on later this week.

Mt Isa Rodeo Open Bullride

Roy Dunn won the 2018 Mt Isa Rodeo Open Bullride with 166.0 points on two including 84.0 points on Blossom (Brandenburg Bucking Bulls) this afternoon. Sam Woodall finished second with Josh Birks filling the last spot on the podium.
