10-Aug Weekend Preview

It is a big weekend for Aussie bull riding fans with Australian cowboys in action in the USA, Canada and at home here in Australia so here is a Weekend Preview to keep you up to date with where your favourite riders are competing this weekend.

While the PBR Canada and PBR Australia events will be live scores or results only, Ridepass will feature all the action from Tulsa, Oklahoma across the weekend.

The 60th Mt Isa Rodeo is also underway this weekend with a few familiar faces riding in the Open Bullride. In case you missed it, PBR Australia and the World Champions Rodeo Alliance (WCRA) today announced a union to expand the footprint of rodeo in the Australian market. This week’s Isa Rodeo will be Australia’s first rodeo to offer competitors the opportunity to qualify for WCRA’s Guthrie, Oklahoma $500,000USD Semi-Finals event in November. Read about the announcement HERE

PBR Canada Touring Pro Division

We kick things off on Saturday morning at 11:00am with the PBR Canada Touring Pro Division event in Whitecourt, AB.
There are 3 Australians included on the daysheet with Current World Number 32 Lachlan Richardson sits 32nd in the World and is looking to continue his good form in the minor leagues before heading south to compete in the USA later in the weekend.
The Gresford, NSW cowboy has drawn Tykro Total from Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls in Round 1 of competition.

Richardson will be joined by Nebo’s Justin Paton and Tamworth’s Lachlan Slade. Paton currently sits 52nd in the World Standings and has drawn the Foley Bucking Bull Fired Up Freddy. Slade will face Billy Big Rigger from Outlaw Buckers Rodeo.

Results for this event may take a day or two to filter through so keep your eye on my Social Media feeds.

PBR Australia Monster Energy Series

With the Top 3 riders in the National Standings separated by less than 600 points, the battle for the 2018 PBR Australia National Championship resumes at the Newcastle Invitational in Newcastle, NSW on Saturday night starting at 7:30pm.

The 25th PBR: Unleash the Beast

The elite 25th PBR: Unleash the Beast series also returns Sunday at 10:00am from its summer break with Nathan Burtenshaw and Lachlan Richardson in action at the Express Employment Professionals Classic in Tulsa, OK.

Round 1 of competition is an ABBI Classic Round and they usually don’t ride too many bulls but when they do we can see big points awarded.

Burtenshaw is the best placed Australian on the PBR World Standings ranked 26th and has drawn Blue Crush from McCoy Ranches. This bull currently sits atop the 2018 ABBI Classic money list averaging 89.42 in his 19 outs this season so the 24-year-old will have his work cut out for him to get this one ridden. He looks a big powerful bull who explodes from the chutes and turns back to the left. The bull has been ridden twice with Ryan Dirteater the latest, scoring 86.5 points back in January at the Oklahoma City event. I am not sure he suits Burtenshaw but we sure hope he makes the whistle for big numbers.

Richardson has drawn Uptown Funk (4G Ranch/Long) who also likes to come out and turn back to the left. He isn’t as rank as Burtenshaw’s draw but Richardson will still have his hands full. This bull sits just inside the Top 30 on the ABBI Classic money list with an average out score of 87.29 points. Uptown Funk was ridden a few weeks back in Cheyenne by Ruger Piva for 86.0 points. I think the 26-year-old Australian is riding well enough to record a qualified ride here in Tulsa.

UPDATE – The Round 2 draw is out. Burtenshaw has drawn Red Rover from Curtis Mendel. This bull has been only been ridden twice in 28 outs and does vary his trips so the Coonamble cowboy will have to be on his toes. Ride scores of 86.5 and 87.5 points have been posted on this bull and that’s exactly the type of trip that Burtenshaw will need to make it back for the Championship Round.

Richardson has drawn Clover Mountain Beau from J&C Cattle Company and Gene Owen in Round 2. This bull has been ridden three times this year for ride scores in the 86-87.5 point range and I think this bull will fit Richardson nicely. They should ride a lot of bulls this morning so this is an excellent opportunity to get a second qualified ride to ensure he moves on to the short-go.

PBR Canada Touring Pro Division

PBR Canada also has and Touring Pro event in Elnora, AB kicking off at 11:30am on Sunday. There is no daysheet available yet but I would expect Justin Paton and Lachlan Slade to back up for the Elnora Brahma Rama.

Check back on Saturday for updates on this event and we may have to wait a day or two for results to be posted.

UPDATE – Lachlan Slade has drawn Headstruck from ENO Bucking Bulls in Round 1 with Justin Paton facing Kool Aid from R Saga Ranch. In Round 2 Slade has drawn Big John from Two Bit Bucking Bulls while Paton will face Muddy Water from X6 Ranch.
